Millionair Spring 2025

To a born and bred Londoner, a weekend trip to Derbyshire might seem like a trek; however, the approximately two-hour train journey to the local town of Bakewell is well worth it when you reach the statuesque Chatsworth House and neighbouring estate.

Arriving through the night rain, along the driveway of The Cavendish Hotel, Baslow (set on the Chatsworth Estate) is to feel the deep rural English ‘countryside home from home’ experience; although this one happens to feature 28 bedrooms situated on the premises of a ‘coaching inn’ that was first built in the 1800’s. The Cavendish Hotel has evolved with the changing times that the main Chatsworth House – a Grade I Stately home tracing back five centuries and 17 generations of the Devonshire family - has also experienced as it has gone from family inhabited to open to the public and run by the Chatsworth House Trust charity.

The Devonshire family are still fully active in the direction and running of the celebrated British landmark: Chatsworth sits on a 105 acre garden and within a stretching 1,822 acre park that incorporates wooded coves, undulating greenland, a farmyard and adventure playground. As well as a current younger family generation looking to implement their own tastes and passions: award winning fashion designer, Erdem, recently staged his Imaginary Conversations, a love letter to the legacy of the late Duchess Deborah Devonshire which inspired his S/S24 show in the guest rooms of Chatsworth. Whilst ‘Women who Made Chatsworth,’ is the latest exhibition (opening April 2025), celebrating the female contribution to the house and estate over the last century.
