The current generation of Devonshire family have extended their welcoming rural meets chic vision to the newly renovated, The Cavendish Hotel. Featuring interior design by London based studio, Nicola Harding, expect a predominant palette of muted greens and soft pastels accented with soft, velvety textures and finish. The hotel interior seamlessly blends the culture, style and history of the Chatsworth Estate with a new chic modernity: stand out accessories include an array of sustainable lamps made from old firehoses from Chatsworth and an eclectic array of portraits and ceramics by leading British artists, including Jeremy Deller, Lisa Brice, Elizabeth Peyton, all lent from the family’s private collection. The luxury bedrooms merge old school charm with insouciant comfort: excellent touches include an antique wooden writing table, stone fireplace and retro corded phone. The ground floor of the hotel now includes three seated areas catering to whatever side of smart/casual you might be feeling: the Bar & Lounge, the Garden Room and The Gallery Restaurant. The 1950’s style bar and lounge sits between pub comfort and hotel bar chic, sip a Chatworth’s Gin based cocktail whilst waiting for dinner surrounded by an eclectic collection of 21 century photography and Devonshire family photos. The Garden Room is an ambient space at the back of the hotel, a covered canopy area with big bay windows and an open terrace area too in the summer. The Cavendish head chef, Adam Harper, puts sustainability at the heart of the food offering: the hotel boasts use of its local businesses so everything off the menu is sourced within a 10mile radius, including meat from the Chatsworth estate and fish from the local reservoirs. The Garden Room menu offers plenty of refreshingly unpretentious English ‘pub grub’ – this editor chose good old fish and chips – overlooking the scenic Chatsworth landscape. For fine dining, The Gallery Restaurant is a 3 AA Rosettes winner, offering an ambitious take on seasonal British dishes. It is a serene space continuing the muted green/blue colourways of the hotel’s main rooms with bold artwork and antique furnishings. st
