Walking the Soul of the City Nuestra Cartagena
By Marcella Martinelli
There’s a rhythm to Cartagena that you don’t feel on postcards or Instagram feeds—it’s felt in the sun on your skin, in the scent of spices drifting from street vendors, and in the laughter echoing through the cobbled streets of the walled city. The first time I truly sensed it, I wasn’t at a museum or a landmark; I was sitting on a rooftop, cocktail in hand, watching the city pulse below me. That’s the Cartagena Nuestra Cartagena wants you to know—the Cartagena that lives in the hearts of its people. Our Cartagena, founded in May 2025 by sixteen independent local businesses, is more than a travel guide. It’s an invitation to slow down, to wander off the beaten track, to meet the city through its makers, chefs, artists, and entrepreneurs. Boutique hotels, beach clubs, restaurants, workshops, and cultural experiences all come together to create a map of authenticity, sustainability, and creativity. For me, it felt like discovering a “little black book” of Cartagena—one written by the city itself.
