I n each generation fashion has found renewal through the talent of its new graduates and the young people entering the industry. Each faces the challenge of living through the years ahead trying to make their dreams come true, for the journalists on the catwalk benches and sat at laptops it’s a study of potential. Sometimes though our job is made simple when we have someone that has both a gift for design and a mindset that not only ties into fashions emerging paths but drives it forward. Patrick McDowell is one such designer, with collections that are breathtaking joining a focus on sustainability and recycling it’s propelled McDowell onto the pages and websites of the most highly regarded tomes and websites of the fashion press. Success hasn’t changed Patrick though, from the first time we met through to the back and forth in DM’s sorting out our discussion this is a designer who despite huge early success has remained down to earth and perfect to put some questions to about the industry, its future and the challenges ahead.
