You've had an incredible journey since your graduate collection in 2018, what would be your reflection on how the fashion system works post-graduation and what do you think needs changing? I think the main issue in fashion is the production of things we don't need, currently we guess which items customers want and consequently have huge amounts of waste both pre and post-consumer. If we only made what people commit to buying, we could see a huge reduction in production as well and encouraging more consideration around what we are buying. I also feel that the mark up of fashion produces pricing which is increasing constantly, which inevitably creates a 'sale' culture which devalues product and creates an expectation around discounts. We see two very strong movements in fashion, the first would be the move to sustainability and ending the damage of fashion but retaining the industry in a new form. How do you see the next decade playing out as the progression moves forward? I think we need a move towards made to order clothing, I think there will be a stronger difference between what we wear to party and what we wear at home/work. I also think that digital dressing will become more prevalent, but as always with technology it is in how we use that determines if it is a positive or negative. The second is how fashion is part of the movement of self-identification and is moving old boundaries forward in the freedom to present yourself in your own image. Do you think this can move fashion past its attachment to behaviours more fitting to mean girls? I think on the whole the idea of the fashion 'BITCH' comes from the popular working style of the 1980's. It is old fashioned and unhelpful and I hope that today most of us can leave that behaviour for the films. I think it is important to realise that we don't have to design for everyone, some people will love my clothes and some will love another designer. We don't have to cater for everyone and we don't need to only measure success through financial growth.
