TWO CULTURES UNDER ONE ROOF...

PANTECHNICON 19 Motcomb St, London SW1X 8LB

Pantechnicon is an exciting new concept store and dining destination in the heart of London’s Belgravia that explores Japanese and Nordic cultures through food, drink, retail and design. It’s fitting that the restored 19th century building, housing five floors of creativity and craftsmanship, was originally an arts and crafts bazaar before being turned into an upmarket warehouse for local residents to store exotic finds from their travels. It was aptly named Pantechnicon at the time, which derives from the Greek words: ‘pan’ for ‘all’ and ‘techne’, which loosely translates to ‘arts and crafts’. While the building maintains its imposing heritage exterior, the design of the vast warehouse-style interior is cutting edge. On the spacious ground floor, The Edit store showcases products from 150 Japanese and Nordic brands, ranging from designer tech and ceramics to outdoor equipment, footwear and fashion accessories. The first floor, known as The Studio, offers a large experiential space, dedicated to emerging brands and artists through workshops as well as retail and dining pop-ups. Dining options include Café Kitsune, featuring Japanese-inspired pastries, breakfast and lunch dishes; immersive bar and boutique bottle shop Sakaya, which offers tastings of rare and precious bottles of sake; 70-seat restaurant Eldr, showcasing Nordic cooking methods and traditions, and the 130-seat Roof Garden at Pantechnicon, an all-season bar and dining space with an all-day small plate and snack menu from the Eldr kitchen. Due to open this spring is the 100-seat Sachi restaurant, bar, cocktail lounge and street terrace on the lower ground floor.
