CURRENT MOOD MilliOnAir | FASHION American Dream - Land of Hope?
By Fashion Contributor Clare Lazaro
W ith the US currently in the throes of a radically changing political landscape, it feels as though there is, at last, some hope on the horizon in the wake of one of the most bizarre years of our lifetimes. But US politicians aside, there is one other notable American who has been instrumental in changing our 2021 landscape. Let us all bow down to Country and Western legend, Dolly Parton, whose unexpected $1 million donation to coronavirus research, supported the development of the Moderna vaccine. She sings, she writes, she plays guitar, she's comedic and glamorous, and she helps save the world. It seems super- heroes really do come in many guises - Dolly has quietly contributed to huge glimmer of global hope.
Whilst I feel this ode to Dolly should include a riot of rhinestones, this season's Americana inspired trends have a distinctly more vintage wild west vibe. From native american prints and fringing, to frayed denim and gaucho hats, but there's also a good dose of Dolly to channel in the form of western shirts, neck scarves and cowboy boots. The western trend, it seems, is becoming a wardrobe staple. It's the micro trend that keeps re-emerging and now seems like the perfect time to celebrate the American Dream. Every western inspired fashionista worth her grits will already own a pair of Isabel Marant cowboy boots or a Chloe Marcie cross body bag. If you're reticent to go the whole hog, try a smattering of boho western accessories or a casually thrown on poncho. But by all means, glamorise the look with rhinestones if you're feeling truly grateful to Dolly (blonde wig and stetson optional).
